Raising funds for Beam
Beam is the world’s first crowdfunding platform for homeless people. Through Beam’s website, you can fund job training, work tools, rental deposits and more for someone experiencing homelessness. Beam will then support each person into a new job or home, while keeping donors updated along the way.
Beam works in partnership with registered charities and local authorities, who refer people to the service. Each homeless person is given a dedicated Beam caseworker, who helps them develop a career plan based on their unique strengths and interests, and provides 1-1 support. Beam also works directly with employers and landlords who hire and house Beam beneficiaries, helping them on the path to true independence.

Alex Stephany, Beam’s founder, was inspired to launch Beam after getting to know a homeless man outside his local tube station. The man had spent decades out of work, and his situation was deteriorating.
It got Alex thinking: “What could we do to make a real difference to this man’s life?” For Alex, the answer lay in empowering him with the skills and training needed to sustainably support himself. Of course, that would cost a lot of money - but what if everyone chipped in? Beam’s crowdfunding platform launched in October 2017 and has supported 650+ people and counting.
